 She loved the movie Highlander so “It’s a Kind Of Magic” and “Who Wants To Live Forever” were huge favorites. The whole album was just good. It was classic. No one has ever come close to being anything quite like Freddie Mercury. No one should even try.

She put the same music on her itunes and smiled knowing a certain 14 year old was learning to play A Horse With No Name for his Grandmother on his guitar. Pretty cool.

Interesting tidbit: A Horse with No Name was originally banned by many radio stations in the US because of drug references.  She of course didn’t get those references as a kid…it was all about a horse and plants and birds and rocks and things. . .

“Nice dress you have hanging over there” he said.

“Thanks, I think” she said.

“I’m on my way to a hoe down” he said with a grin that would make the Cheshire cat’s look small.

“Have fun” she said, wondering what the grin was all about and what the significance of ruffles in her life was. 

She thought about it some more and wondered if the ruffles could symbolize the layers in her life.  Something to ponder… Now what was that worm up to???  She thought she heard music coming from outside and walked over to the window to listen. Dueling Banjos (from “Deliverance”)was playing ever so faintly. It didn’t seem to be coming from anywhere in particular. It just hung in the air. That was one twisted worm.

She would have to give the layers thing some more thought…maybe some more self discovery…now if she could just get the banjos out of her head…

Donna Summer covered the song 10 years later and did very well with it, but it never captured the emotional drama of “cake demise” that the Richard Harris version did. Apparently though, people liked the disco version and it stayed high on the charts. It still baffled her mind that a song like this could make it not once but twice to the charts at all, but it just goes to show you can sing about just about anything and people will listen. (Just like one could write about just about anything and people will read it.)

“Someone left the cake out… in the rain. I don’ think that I can take it, because it took so long to bake it, and I’ll never have that recipe again… oooooooh nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

Harry Chapin was a storyteller. Cat’s In The Cradle (written in 1974) hit home for many of us. The song has been redone, parts of the lyric remixed years later, still being relevant.  She imagined her words having relevance all those years later. She smiled. Maybe.  Maybe someday. FYI: Harry almost lost credit for the song thanks to the Internet and a mistake with .mp3 credits being given, but she knew. Harry Chapin wrote it. Those were his words, she’d heard those records played many, many times.

She listened with great pleasure as the songs she’d been hearing her entire life filled the room. She was grateful to her parents for a very eclectic musical taste. But this…this was storytelling.  She was listening to wonderful stories from an angel…and thinking about having a banana.

She kept herself busy but never really got anything done. She did seem a bit less ZombieGirlish so that was good. She had things to do, (things to put off) places to go (places to put off going) people to see (people to put off seeing) and she needed to be fresh and ready for the day!!!  Well, Happy Easter and she didn’t even have any chocolate eggs. That’s just wrong. But not worth getting up for.

Ah tomorrow…tomorrow would be a Monday…a perfect day to start a new beginning (cough choke gag) and start her new adventure, whatever that may be.  Maybe she’d begin one of the many projects she bought supplies for. Heaven knows there were plenty of supplies. But she had to be in just the perfectly perfect perfect perfect mood (did I say perfect?) to get going with her “hands on” creative inspiration. She did wish she had some clay.  This would be a lovely time for clay. Perhaps baking sugar cookies would have to do.

Suddenly the Mr Roger’s theme song came to her head and she knew she was in even bigger trouble but it was much too warm for a cardigan.

Oh my dear friends, if you are reading, I have not lost it, but I do hope I have brought a smile.  That is something I do think I might be good at from time to time. And if I have lost it, please remember that calling cards are welcome gifts in the psych ward.  Thank you.
