I’m listening to it now and the digitally remastered sound is fantastic.
(Sorry to the purists out there but mono isn’t going to cut it.)

All the favorites are on this album of course, click the link and take a quick sample listen for yourself. It’s definitely worth it!

She felt wrong today…perhaps that had something to do with the little stunt of not taking her “scary pill” until 3am. Hey, better late than never she thought.

She was in an uneasy place, a place with gray skies and shallow, rapid breathing. Her mind wasn’t the clutter-fest it would have been had she skipped her pill, but it wasn’t right. It was in a weird place. A “get me out of here” kind of place. She felt like she was floating on creepy waters that rose and sank without explanation. She wanted something, but she couldn’t put her finger on what it was.

She almost felt like she was sinking, and that she had to save some portion of herself. (As if handing up her brain and saying take it away was really possible.) She wondered if that was her best feature and if that’s what should be saved. She always thought she had nice feet. Hmm, bit of a toss up on that one.

Spinning now, the music from Premonition was the perfect backdrop to her bizarre state of mind. Musical scores were soothing to her. She almost preferred them to music with lyrics. Her disquieted mind did at least. Certainly they were easier to “think to” if she wanted to allow herself to think at all. . .

She quietly listened and slowed her breathing to a more normal pattern. She continued floating along to the music. . .

She put the same music on her itunes and smiled knowing a certain 14 year old was learning to play A Horse With No Name for his Grandmother on his guitar. Pretty cool.

Interesting tidbit: A Horse with No Name was originally banned by many radio stations in the US because of drug references. She of course didn’t get those references as a kid…it was all about a horse and plants and birds and rocks and things. . .

She was just settling down after that dreadful trip to the mall when she heard what sounded like a pebble thrown at the window. She glanced over to see her friend the worm guy (yes, a bug) and he was wearing, his usual cowboy hat and a green plaid shirt with ruffles.

“Nice dress you have hanging over there” he said.

“Thanks, I think” she said.

“I’m on my way to a hoe down” he said with a grin that would make the Cheshire cat’s look small.

“Have fun” she said, wondering what the grin was all about and what the significance of ruffles in her life was.

She thought about it some more and wondered if the ruffles could symbolize the layers in her life. Something to ponder… Now what was that worm up to??? She thought she heard music coming from outside and walked over to the window to listen. Dueling Banjos (from “Deliverance”)was playing ever so faintly. It didn’t seem to be coming from anywhere in particular. It just hung in the air. That was one twisted worm.

She would have to give the layers thing some more thought…maybe some more self discovery…now if she could just get the banjos out of her head…

If you think waking up to extremely loud gardening equipment was bad, try waking to this at extremely high decibels in the morning by your father who thought it was a fun way to get the house going on a day you simply wanted to sleep in. All 17 minutes of it. Now I will admit, this is a good one to walk to if you are a walker. Has a good beat, keeps you going, and if anything, you want to walk till the damn song just finally ends. You can’t cheat and get the single version…no under 3 minute version will do. You MUST have the full 17 minutes to appreciate this song. So if you are going to get it, go long. You will appreciate it. It is a classic. Duh Duh…Duh Duh Duh Duh…Duh… Duh… Duh… I am sure you are just feeling that… gotta love the sixties!

Another trip down musical memory lane had our heroine’s ipod playing MacArthur Park sung by Richard Harris. The song was first recorded by Richard Harris in 1968. He made it to #2 in US charts which is pretty amazing considering the length of the song and the fact it was about leaving a cake out in the rain. Of course to any kid in the 1970s, this was a horrible thing making this song a must have sing-a-long…at least in her house.
The most interesting piece of trivia related to any of this is that the late Richard Harris later went on to play the original Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies. Not everyone knew that.

Donna Summer covered the song 10 years later and did very well with it, but it never captured the emotional drama of “cake demise” that the Richard Harris version did. Apparently though, people liked the disco version and it stayed high on the charts. It still baffled her mind that a song like this could make it not once but twice to the charts at all, but it just goes to show you can sing about just about anything and people will listen. (Just like one could write about just about anything and people will read it.)

“Someone left the cake out… in the rain. I don’ think that I can take it, because it took so long to bake it, and I’ll never have that recipe again… oooooooh nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

She never felt his studio recordings captured the magnificence that was caught in the on stage live recordings. One of her favorite songs is, of course, 30,000 Pounds of Bananas because… how could it not be a favorite? It is *brilliant* that anyone could write a song that is over 11 minutes long about 30,000 pounds of bananas! [If you haven't heard this album, check it out, you already know some of the songs, you just don't know you know them.] Another reason she loves this song, without giving away too much, is that it is set very close to where she was born, and so of course the “occurrence” happening near where she was born is just spectacular. It is an event. It is almost as good as Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline as if directly to her. Who’d have guessed *everyone* would know that song?

Harry Chapin was a storyteller. Cat’s In The Cradle (written in 1974) hit home for many of us. The song has been redone, parts of the lyric remixed years later, still being relevant. She imagined her words having relevance all those years later. She smiled. Maybe. Maybe someday. FYI: Harry almost lost credit for the song thanks to the Internet and a mistake with .mp3 credits being given, but she knew. Harry Chapin wrote it. Those were his words, she’d heard those records played many, many times.

She listened with great pleasure as the songs she’d been hearing her entire life filled the room. She was grateful to her parents for a very eclectic musical taste. But this…this was storytelling. She was listening to wonderful stories from an angel…and thinking about having a banana.

(Album, LP, vinyl…spin…wheeeeeee!) She remembered throwing all kinds of vegetables into the pan and a little this and that. They must have been in grade seven. Her mom had a nicely stocked refrigerator, but there wasn’t a butterbean in sight. It turned out well and she liked to think she made a decent stir fry ever since. Listening, she supposed these people were more drugged then than her meds were making her now. She felt good about that somehow. At least hers were legal. Seriously, who would write a song about butterbeans? Then again, who would listen to it over and over as a kid and then buy it again as an adult on amazon and then write about it? Oh but it’s so much fun. Fun is good. She thought everyone should try it…
